CURRENT EXHIBIT: David and Sandy Wasco’s Academy Award winning work on the film LA LA LAND

We are proud to open our new art gallery inside the McHurley Film Center with the first exhibit featuring David and Sandy Wasco’s Academy Award winning work on the film LA LA LAND, which is celebrating its 10th Anniversary this year.

The Film Center is open DAILY at 1:30pm until the evening where you can come see a film and look through the exhibit, which will be on display until June 2026.

Residents of Santa Barbara since 2012, David Wasco and Sandy Reynolds-Wasco, a feature film team of Production Designer and Set Decorator, are known for designing the early Wes Anderson movies as well as Quentin Tarantino’s most notable films.

The exhibit shows the process of designing a film from early meetings with Director Damien Chazelle, through scouting locations, to designing the built sets. It also includes mention and examples of the work done by the many members of the Art Department, including Set Designers, Concept Illustrators, Graphic Designers, Crafts persons collaborating to produce the “Look” of the Film.

“We were so excited to participate in the opening of The McHurley Film Center with a gallery show dedicated to the joy of film making. Not only did we get to re-visit “La La Land”, a favorite, but we appreciated the opportunity to explain just what an Art Department does and how we do it, things surprising few really know anything about. “The Craft of Movie Design” is an introduction to our jobs and the many collaborators helping us provide the Actors with worlds in which to tell a Director’s story. Hopefully the displays will make the community’s enjoyment of this special Theater, even fuller!” – David and Sandy Wasco
